چکیده

In this work, we present two methods for analyzing the syllables of the bird song on the Self-Organizing Map (SOM). Dynamic time warping is used for computing the distances between the data sequences. In the first method, the pairwise distances are first computed between the data sequences and each row of the distance matrix is then considered as a feature vector. The conventional SOM with fixed-dimensional model vectors can then be used. The second method is based on online learning of variablelength sequence prototypes. In both cases the SOM is used for constructing a low-dimensional visualization space for the data. We give results analyzing the syllables from five bird species belonging to the Phylloscopus family of passerine birds.

Neural Self-organization in Processing High-resolution Image Data

The paper presents a novel artificial network type, which is a generalization of the famous Self-Organizing Feature Map (SOFM). The newly developed Self-Organizing Neuron Graph (SONG) algorithm keeps the Kohonen-type learning rule of SOFM, but enables more flexibility by the use of undirected graphs. The SONG algorithm is based on the generalized adjacency between the graph nodes. After the sho...

Landforms identification using neural network-self organizing map and SRTM data

During an 11 days mission in February 2000 the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) collected data over 80% of the Earth's land surface, for all areas between 60 degrees N and 56 degrees S latitude. Since SRTM data became available, many studies utilized them for application in topography and morphometric landscape analysis. Exploiting SRTM data for recognition and extraction of topographic ...

Automatic identification of bird species based on sinusoidal modeling of syllables

Syllables are elementary building blocks of bird song. In sounds of many songbirds a large class of syllables can be approximated as amplitude and frequency varying brief sinusoidal pulses. In this article we test how well bird species can be recognized by comparing simple sinusoidal representations of isolated syllables. Results are encouraging and show that with limited sets of bird species a...

ICCAS 2005 June 2 - 5 , KINTEX , Gyeonggi - Do , Korea Malay Syllables Speech Recognition Using Hybrid Neural Network Abdul

This paper presents a hybrid neural network system which used a Self-Organizing Map and Multilayer Perceptron for the problem of Malay syllables speech recognition. The novel idea in this system is the usage of a two-dimension Self-organizing feature map as a sequential mapping function which transform the phonetic similarities or acoustic vector sequences of the speech frame into trajectories ...
